Chemistry lab is located in wedi Al Harieh. It serves the
B.Sc. students especially these who are majoring in Applied Physics and Biomedical
Engineering. The students
that study in this laboratory are estimated by 150 each semester. When ever needed,
the college updates the lab in order to cope with the new scientific developments
and meet the needs of students and researchers in various fields.
The chemistry lab is basically equipped with all equipments
needed to conduct two practical courses in chemistry: General Chemistry I lab and
general chemistry II lab, the outlines of which are presented bellow.
1.
General Chemistry I lab:
Course Outline:
Exp1: Introduction to Chemical Laboratory
Exp 2: Determination of Boiling and Melting Points
Exp 3: The Empirical Formula of a chemical Compound
Exp 4: Water of Hydration
Exp 5: Decomposition of Potassium Chlorate
Exp 6: Qualitative Inorganic Analysis
Exp 7: Limiting Reactant
Exp 8: Calorimetry and Heats of Reactions
Exp 9: Stoichiometry of Two Chemical Reactions
Exp 10: Molecular Mass of a Volatile Liquid
Exp 11: Standardization of Sodium Hydroxide Solution
Exp 12: Analysis of an Acetic Acid Solution
Exp 13: Water Solubility of Potassium Chlorate
2.
General Chemistry II lab:
Course Outline:
Exp1: Acid-base titration
Exp 2: Oxidation Reduction titration (standardization of thiosulfate
solution)
Exp 3: Vitamin C Analysis
Exp 4: Bleach Analysis
Exp 5: Molecular weight determination of nonvolatile compounds
Exp 6: Solubility constant and common-ion effect
Exp 7: Extraction of organic compound
Exp 8: Separation of mixture of organic compounds (Chromatography)
Exp 9: Detection of organic compound
Exp 10: Etherification
Exp 11: Electrolysis of aqueous solutions
In addition, some specific equipment necessary to conduct chemical tests and analysis
required by different university departments is available in the chemistry tab.
