The Advanced Applied Physics Lab (Room B+209)

Palestine Polytechnic University boasts several laboratories catering to the diverse scientific study programs within the College of Applied Sciences. Notably, the applied physics laboratories offer hands-on learning opportunities for students. Here's an overview:

  • Applied Physics Laboratory 1: This laboratory focuses on experiments covering a wide range of topics, including mechanics, thermodynamics, positional mechanics, electricity, and magnetism.
  • Applied Physics Laboratory 2: In this laboratory, students delve into experiments related to light, wave motion, modern physics, atomic physics, and nuclear physics.
  • Both laboratories accommodate 10-15 students per session and are located in Building B+209.

Students are expected to:

  1. Work effectively as part of a team.
  2. Use sophisticated measuring devices and connecting experimental circuits.
  3. Compose scientific reports, which involve analyzing experimental data.
The lab caters to students from various programs, primarily focusing on:

These laboratories are exclusively allocated to students of applied physics during the fifth and sixth semesters.

As for its equipment and supplies, the lab is well-equipped with a diverse range of instruments and essentials, including:

5

A power supply is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load.

6

An induction coil or "spark coil" is a type of electrical transformer used to produce high-voltage pulses from a low-voltage direct current supply.

7

Gaussmeters are scientific instruments used to measure magnetic fields.

8

A Helmholtz coil is a device for producing a region of nearly uniform magnetic field, named after the German physicist Hermann von Helmholtz. It consists of two electromagnets on the same axis.

9

A function generator is usually a piece of electronic test equipment or software used to generate different types of electrical waveforms over a wide range of frequencies. Some of the most common waveforms produced by the function generator are the sine wave, square wave, triangular wave.

17

An optical table is a vibration control platform that is used to support systems used for laser- and optics-related experiments, engineering and manufacturing. The surfaces of these tables are designed to be very rigid with minimum deflection so that the alignment of optical elements remains stable over time.
