Biology Lab 1 (Room B+406)

It is one of the laboratories within the College of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the Applied Biology program. It has a capacity for 15 students and is equipped with modern tools and devices essential for imparting various practical skills and abilities to students.

It encompasses various devices, tools, and materials crucial for instructing students in many basic and specialized biology skills, including:

  1. Tissue culture techniques for both plant and animal cells.
  2. Slide preparation techniques, covering

Fixation,

Embedding,

Trimming,

Cutting on a microtome,

Staining,

Algae propagation, and

Biochemical tests.

  1. Proper usage of compound light microscopes.
  2. Proper usage of dissecting microscopes.

Additionally, students in applied biology conduct their graduation projects in these laboratories, focusing on topics such as:

  1. Extracting natural materials from wild plants for use in treating various pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and parasites as an alternative to antibiotics.
  2. Isolating and characterizing bacteriophages as an alternative to antibiotics.
  3. Identifying and characterizing pathogenic bacteria from hospital environments, food, and water sources, and determining the most effective antibiotics for treatment.
  4. Isolating and diagnosing genes responsible for human genetic diseases.
  5. Cloning genes responsible for certain societal traits.

The lab caters to students from various programs, primarily focusing on:
